A Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) comprises multiple layers of materials. The primary material is concrete, followed by a steel cylinder. The next layer consists of prestressed steel wires that create a stable compressive force.

The complex structure and multi-material composition of PCCP pose significant challenges for non-invasive ultrasonic flow metering, especially when measuring large-diameter pipes. Low-frequency, high-amplitude transducers are required to measure the flow rate in large-diameter PCCP accurately.

The Flexim FLUXUS® WD features two transducers securely mounted to the pipe using stainless steel straps and housed in robust stainless steel casings. The transducers themselves have a standard IP68 waterproof rating. In a unique feature, the transducers are connected with permanent coupling pads, eliminating the need for gel that can degrade or wash away. This ensures the system's durability, making it suitable for buried installations.

The Flexim FLUXUS® WD can transmit and receive signals through multiple layers of materials commonly found in pipes, such as PCCP, ensuring sufficient signal quality for accurate flow measurement. Ultrasonic signals are transmitted at a rate of 1000 times per second and evaluated by a highly sophisticated digital signal processor, which calculates time differences based on cross-correlation. This ensures excellent noise reduction and results in highly accurate data, even on challenging pipes.
